NOTE-TAKING  Recreate the Founding Era Timeline as accurately as you can. Watch for terms/concepts such as Judicial Review, precedent, stare decisis, sedition, certiorari, positive vs. negative rights, prior restraints vs. subsequent punishments, etc.

We will watch this 24-minute video about the history and workings of the U.S. Supreme Court: Part I and Part II. Take extensive notes about what you are learning as we watch because you will need those notes as raw material for the blog post.

 First, reflect on these questions:

• What did you learn about the Supreme Court that you didn't already know?
• What is the most important take-away point about the Supreme Court.
• What was the most surprising thing you learned?
• How did the video change the way you thought of the Supreme Court?

Now, add some first-person phrasing throughout your notes:

Now, sign into Microsoft Copilot using your HPU sign-in. We will work together in class to begin mastering the art of prompt-building, in this case to use the tool to shape your notes into a well-organized and readable blog post. This is a life skill that is transferrable to the workplace — imagine, for example, taking notes during a meeting and crafting a summary afterward to share with colleagues.

This assignment also will sharpen your emotional intelligence by getting you to think more intentionally about when and how to use AI as a helpful tool, not as a substitute for your own thinking. We will work together to draft an AI DISCLOSURE that will attach to the end of the post that will show the reader, with specificity, how you used the AI and your role in shaping the finished product.
